Vanishing act

Well I gave Mum a big fright the other night.  I am an exceptionally loyal and devoted Cavalier who normally sleeps not IN the bed, not ON the bed, but right beside Karen enjoying the comfort of the spare pillow.  You can't imagine her shock/horror, when she woke up the other night and reached across only to find me ...  GONE!

I  awoke to the frantic calls of "Murphy! Murphy! Murphy!" at some ungodly hour but, despite her frantic calling, I was still nowhere to be found.

Suddenly she realized there was a very intriguing lump underneath her own pillow - she peeped under only to find one very sleepy Cavalier King Charles Spaniel X doing my best to ignore her frantic cries and happily dozing underneath.  Well it was a cold night and it was nice and warm under there. Mum was the normal party-pooper and has told me never ever to frighten her like this again.

MMS: Hop to it!

This pic goes to prove how seriously I take my responsibilities around here. Here I am 'guarding' the frog tank. In truth super-sized furry me was doing my best to terrorize these little buggers. They are quite plump little creatures and I thought a bit of frog agility could prove fun for all. As far as Mum was concerned, her lovely, gentle and the ever honourable Murf was dutifully keeping watch over our smaller household friends while she simply cleaned the frog tank. Amber was 'on guard' too but she knocked off early. Last weekend we went to the K9 agility trial. I enjoyed working under lights and ran just that little bit faster. Karen was pleased. Someone had some bloody stupid theory about keeping me locked in the boot all bloody evening although I must admit conditions were quite condusive to additional snoozing. I seem to recall seeing but somehow managed to by-pass the A-frame. I also missed a few weaves but otherwise negotiated the tricky bits. I did a good jumping round but got distracted by an interesting sniff at obstacle #14, after that Karen said my 'wheels' fell off. *Looks around* Well I must have lost them somewhere as they're certainly not there now! Karen was told her handling was much better although she seems to recall almost falling over at one point. Maybe her uncanny ability to stabilize while in motion earned her extra brownie points? OUR trial will be our next trial, both Mum and I have lots of work to do before now and then.

In the dog house

It seems the dictionaries have been out tonight and, shock ... horror! A spelling error has been identified on Murphy's blog. I have been told not only to rectify it but to write it 100 times.

Clamber (not clambour)  Just like 'Amber' with a CL. ...

My keyboard skills aren't that great so it's just as well I have conquered the ability to cut and paste using the mouse, otherwise this could take a lifetime.  I don't consider I do too badly for an intelligent, but basically uneducated, Cavalier King Charles Spaniel X. They certainly don't each me useful things like typing and spelling at Doggy School.

Indeed Karen should consider herself lucky that I care to share my literary skills and prowess at all. Just think of Mr Ed - he got his own TV show and probably got paid megabucks.  I am happy to share my thoughts with the world and, apart from an occaional pat, i don't even command any fees.

Next time I think I will use a nice, simple word like 'hop' in order to avoid any such indignities occuring again ...

Home again

We are home!  I have been checking my blog for incorrect spelling.  Everything seems to be OK although I did notice a couple of mistakes which can be attributed, not so much to my poor spelling, but indeed to Karen's inaccurate typing.  Got to keep those critics happy ...

Amber and I had a run on the Cowes football oval this morning.  Karen had her long-awaited chocolate-coated banana and then we said a temporary farewell to Phillip Island. Amber and I know we will be back.

Karen came home via Inverloch.  What a lovely spot!  We travelled along the coastal road which was very pretty.

Karen stopped the car so we could stretch our legs at Kilcunda.  Karen also stopped at Caldermeade Farm and had devonshire tea. She said the challenge was to work out how to possibly fit all the jam and cream on the scones - something which obviously took considerable skill but which she managed to do quite effectively.  We suspect she has had previous practice.

Back home to limp plants, an empty fridge and hungry frogs.  Time now to plan our next vacation ...

Bye for now

Karen has been busy de-furring the carpet, sweeping, washing the floors and packing the car which means it's almost time for us to leave.  As usual she packed too many tops, too many shoes and too many jumpers which she didn't even wear.  You would think she'd learn by now.

Karen dashed off to Amaze'n Things this morning.  She said you either needed to have a kid or be a kid to really enjoy it.  She then spent the afternoon making scones at Churchill Island and playing "What's the time Mr Wolf" and "Octopus" with the kids.  She said the kids could run really fast and that trying to catch them out proved to be hard work.  We think Karen, like us, is getting older but, of course, we would never say as much.

Guy, Eleanora and Antonio visited Churchill Island this afternoon.  Young Antonio loved clambering onto the carts and made Karen and Guy clamber on board too.  Karen showed him the guinea pigs ... and the rabbits ... and the ducks then they all went back to the Silverwater Resort for a coffee and a chat.

Karen's activity was cancelled this evening.  She took us for a beach walk at Surf Beach and then went for a quick walk through Conservation Hill herself before returning home to start packing and doing the housework.

Ranger Graham suggested last night that we consider coming back in April to help with the Shearwater Rescue program.  Karen loves helping out and has agreed to assist with the shearwaters but will have to have a think about rebooking the house and staying.  If we don't happen to make it in April, we will certainly be back again next year ...
